Overview
The course aims to make students think about their experiences whilst on industrial attachment in terms of appropriate and inappropriate conducts and actions. It also creates opportunities for students to reflect on what they have learnt whilst on industrial attachment and what they still need to learn. Presentation and discussion of reports that detail and appraise the overall experience of students as interns. Students are also able to reflect on problems and opportunities in the Graphic Design Industry based on their experiences whilst on industrial attachment. It gives students the platform to enhance their understanding of how their industrial attachment experience fits into current practice and thinking within the graphic design industry in Ghana and beyond. The course also assists critical reflection of each student’s personal experience as an intern and how the challenges faced, as well as, the experiences, lessons and insights gained can be utilised to make the student better ‘fits’ for the graphic design industry. In addition, the course creates opportunities for students regarding self-development in written and oral presentation capabilities. Another objective is to create a platform where the industrial attachment experiences of individual students are shared, discussed and evaluated in a cross-fertilisation and cooperate manner that informs and enriches the knowledge of everybody who is part of the class. Topics include, presentation techniques; introspection; skills and techniques in narration and description; report writing; identification of lessons and insights gained; critical thinking; critical questioning; thoughtful response giving. The course would involve a series of presentations of a purposeful collection of students’ work that exhibit their efforts, progress, and achievements during their sixteen-week Industrial Attachment Programme (lAP). Upon Completion of this course, students will understand the essence of self-directed out-of-classroom learning, gain a broader view of what is learned, demonstrate progress toward identified outcomes, create an intersection for classroom instruction and industrial practices, identify ways of valuing themselves as learners and identify opportunities for peer-supported growth. The course ensures that individual students presentations represent a collection of his/her best works or best efforts as well as selected samples of Graphic Design products and work experiences; Documentation are according to growth and development toward mastering various Graphic Design Practices and are presented electronically; Contents of presentation support graduate advisement, career preparation and credential documentation. Each presentation is submitted in the form of an e-portfolio archived on a Web-site or an electronic media such as a Pendrive or External Drive.
